Finding Inspiration from Real Travel Magazines
When I started making my travel guide magazine I didn’t think I could learn much from real magazines. I used to just look at them for fun and didn’t notice the design. But now that I’m making my own, I see how every part of a magazine matters. I looked at National Geographic Traveler, Lonely Planet and AFAR Magazine to get ideas, especially because my magazine goes from tropical beaches to busy cities.
From National Geographic Traveler I learned that photos can completely change how you feel about a place. Their tropical pictures are amazing the colors, the light and the angles make you feel like you’re there on the beach. I want my magazine to make readers feel that same excitement in the tropical sections.
AFAR Magazine showed me how to tell a story and make pages look nice. Their articles have a good mix of pictures and writing that make every place feel special. I like how the pages aren’t crowded. This will help for the city sections, where I will include more info like restaurants, museums and nightlife without making it messy.
Lonely Planet gave me ideas for being helpful and fun. Their guides give tips for every kind of trip, whether it’s a quiet island or a big city. I like how they mix advice with interesting stories. That’s the feeling I want for my magazine, friendly, helpful and adventurous, taking readers from tropical beaches to busy city streets.
Looking at these magazines made me realize that travel guides don’t just show places they tell a story with pictures, words and design. I want my magazine to do the same, so readers feel like they are traveling along from tropical beaches to cities and enjoy every page
